Tutorial: How to Whiten Stained Nails

*Note: This tutorial was migrated from my previous site 'nailsbyjkl.tumblr.com'

I know for a fact that I am not the only one who suffers from this problem.  I absolutely hate it when I find a beautiful nail polish color, wear it for a few days and then only find my nails bleeding the nail polish color after taking it off. After searching the internet to find different ways of curing this problem I put together a little tutorial of my own that works best for me.

So here is the manicure I had done

I swatched 2 coats of Zoya's Liberty Pixiedust over a base coat. This is what happened after I took it off.

Yikes! Jinkies! Zoinks! My nails turned blue! It's like they caught pneumonia. Even my skin turned blue! So how do you get rid of those stains!?

Step 1: Clean your cuticles
Odd yes I know but I found some of my cuticle beds had nail polish in them so I just applied cuticle oil to the beds. I took my cuticle pusher and pushed back/cleaned out my cuticles. That helped remove some of the unwanted stains. I washed my hands after.

Step 2: Baking Soda + Hydrogen Peroxide soak
Place 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. Mix well. It should be a bit runny more than pasty. Then just dunk your hands in the bowl and let them soak for a good 3 minutes. For me the mixture kept segregating from one another so I mixed with my fingers while they were in the bowl. Killed 2 birds with one stone kinda thing. This is how my nails looked after I soaked them.

Step 3: Moisturize!
I washed my hands with warm water and soap after soaking. I applied my Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream to my cuticles and also Burt's Bees Hand Salve to my hands. It is important to use cuticle creams/oils and hand creams/salves, they keep your hands moisturized and prevent your skin from drying out and keeps them soft.

Ta-dah! This is how they came out afterwards! Nice and white again! Even my skin wasn't stained anymore. Ah the wonderful works of baking soda & hydrogen peroxide.

I hope this tutorial helped you all! Questions or comments you can enter them down below (:
